Autumn Colors for a Smoky Mountain Wedding
When it comes to an October wedding you can't find anything quite as breathtaking as the fall colors in the Great Smoky Mountains. The couple knew this to be true when planning their autumn wedding at The Magnolia Venue in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. This venue offers stunning views of the most biodiverse national park with over 19,000 species!
The couple contacted me through my website and were very excited to have the mountains shining through in their wedding portrait. The couple also knew exactly the moment they wanted for their painting. The groom planned to swing his new bride into a graceful dip for their kiss, and they wanted me to capture them in their candid moment.

When I paint a wedding, I arrive a couple of hours early and start taking reference photos of the background and scenery, then continue photographing throughout the ceremony to catch the couple's perfect moment.
The ceremony was as perfect as any bride could ask for, the Magnolia Venue here in Tennessee is one of my favorites, and the autumn colors of the smoky mountains were glowing in the background.
But as they dipped for their kiss, I realized the perspective of my shot didn’t get me the best view. It would be challenging to paint their features perfectly using that photo.
After seeing the photo the couple agreed, and we moved on to plan B. They gave me a few moments before their official wedding photos began and we posed them for a styled reference photo with perfect perspective.
Sometimes we plan to paint a candid moment, but I always find it best to plan a styled pose to ensure we don’t find ourselves scrambling. This ensures I have the best angles for working my magic on the canvas.
With both sets of reference photos to work with, I headed over to the reception area and set up to begin their live wedding painting.
This wedding took place early in the evening, but I always tell my clients that I will paint the sky however they choose. This couple wanted a beautiful golden hour portrait with the sunset beaming over the mountaintops of the Smokies and glowing with autumn colors.
I made sure to include their arbor behind them which was composed of special handmade florals.

When the live painting was finished the bride and groom were blown away by their wedding painting. I always like to give my clients one last keepsake, so I loaded up two brushes with paint and asked the two of them to make the final brushstrokes of their painting. Those brushes were dried out with the paint on them and sent to the couple along with their painting as a special time capsule of their day.
